PROF JOHANN OPPERMAN

Prof Johan Opperman is an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist and Principal Consultant Pathologist at Tygerberg Hospital and the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS). He holds undergraduate degrees in Science and Dentistry from Stellenbosch University, a Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from the University of the Western Cape, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Odontology.

His clinical work focuses on the diagnosis and management of complex oral, maxillofacial and head and neck lesions. His areas of interest include oral cancer, oral potentially malignant disorders, salivary gland pathology, odontogenic and bone tumours, and forensic odontology.

Prof Opperman is also actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as continuing professional development. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to book chapters and presented his work at national and international conferences. His commitment to diagnostic excellence, research and education contributes to advancing the understanding and management of oral and maxillofacial disease.
