DR ANTHEA JEFTHA

Prof Anthea Jeftha is an Associate Professor at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where she is Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology in the Faculty of Dentistry and Head of the Clinical Unit in the same discipline. She holds a BChD and MChD in Oral Medicine and Periodontology from the University of the Western Cape.

Her clinical and academic interests focus on the diagnosis and management of oral and periodontal diseases, with particular interest in the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic conditions. Her research has included clinical disease management, oral mucosal and periodontal diseases, systematic reviews and clinical research involving periodontal disease.

A particular area of her research is the relationship between periodontitis and diabetes mellitus, including the impact of periodontal disease on metabolic health. She has contributed to research examining this relationship within the South African context and has published in the fields of periodontal and oral medicine.
